In Greece, cheese and dairy production has a tradition of many centuries. There are references for cheese production in ancient Greece, in the writings of Aristophanes and Aristotle.

Nowadays cheese is an important part of the daily diet of the Greeks. In almost every region of Greece, pure, traditional cheeses and dairy products of excellent quality and taste are produced, from fresh sheep and goat's or cow's milk.
