Frumenty (Trahanas)

Frumenty Frumenty, in greek “trahanas”, is the basic pasta of the traditional greek cuisine. It is made by mixing flour (cracked wheat) and milk, being one of the oldest reported foods.

Greece has a vast variety of trahanas and recipes based on it. You can find it sweet or sour, from cow or sheep milk, with flour or semolina. In every greek region  local ingredients are added in the basic paste and the result is that trahanas’ taste varies from region to region.

Greek Frumenty is very nutritional and delicious and can be preserved for a long period of time. It is boiled and served as a soup or even thicker with tomatoes and feta cheese. Always a delicious pasta, even if served plain.
