Extra Virgin Olive Oil, PDO Kalamata, 5lt, tin can, Koroneiko variety, "Messinian Hills"
The Koroneiki olive variety is known to produce extra virgin olive oil of very high quality.
One hundred and fifty years ago, Arcadians, who were moving their flocks to Messinia during the winter months, settled permanently beyond the river in the hills overlooking the Ionian Sea. They called their village Raches (hills) and startiong taming and cultivating their new surroundings.
Over the years, they grafted more and more of the native wild olive trees of the region, with a tame local variety called "Coroneiki", which had been abundant in the neighbouring plains for centuries. The results were partiucularly fruitful, leading to the younger generations new olive groves planting.
Nowadays, Varelas family, applying certified cultivation methods combined with the unique microclimate of the sunny hills, produces the high quality oil "Messinian Hills", rich in health defending substances.
