Ούζο Πιτσιλαδής

The locals at Lesbos strongly believe that the Plomari ouzo “Pitsiladis” (42% vol) is "the best ouzo on the island". It is a friendly, pleasant and aromatic drink, exactly the way one would dream of the ideal ouzo.
The history of Pitsiladis family goes back to late 1800’s when they built their first distillery aside the river at Pergamos, Minor Asia. They produced ouzo systematically since 1892, when they obtained their first distilling licence.

Πιτσιλαδής 1929 - Πλωμάρι

At Lesbos, late 1928, the Pitsiladis started the production of brandy and liquors, together with ouzo. The company launches a new label at 1950, the one with yellow and red colours which they use until today. Since 1957 they produce only ouzo and brandy, until the mid 80’s. Brandy production is then abandoned and the Pitsiladis are since devoted to the ouzo production.
Until today the ouzo production is continued by the old-fashioned, father-to-son way. By soaking anise and cereal grains in seawater, never using sugar to speed-up the distilling and following a secret family recipe, the Pitsiladis are still the masters of ouzo.
The moto of the family during the last 120 years has always been “Quality is more important than quantity”.
The Pitsiadis ouzo is enjoyed best with grilled shrimps and octopus, “ladotyri” cheese from Mytilene.
